O nly a few miles from the Italian border in southern Switzerland, Zermatt has found fame as a mountain resort, offering access to world-class skiing and mountaineering. Switzerland’s highest peak (Dufourspitze) and arguably its most famous (the Matterhorn) tower above this picturesque town. All combustion engines are banned from the town and several of Switzerland’s most spectacular railways are connected to Zermatt, including the Glacier Express and Gornergrat rack railway.
