Holidays with the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

T o take the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is to time travel, stepping back into the glamour of the 1920s when travel was as much about the journey as the destination. This ethos informs every aspect of this famous train, from its supremely comfortable cabins to the fabulous food and first-class service offered by every member of staff.

As the train makes its way across Europe, you will be able to watch a carousel of landscapes flicker past the window from your luxurious cabin. Meal times will provide an opportunity to meet fellow travellers who share your belief that sometimes speed is not of the essence, whilst you enjoy a wonderful and varied menu.

The train’s on-board stewards are an essential aspect of this luxurious adventure, offering attentive but discreet service and ensuring your every whim is catered for. All of the staff on-board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express are passionate and knowledgeable about the train and its history, and are eager to share their stories and expertise with you.

The Compartments

Venice Simplon – Orient-Express

The well appointed compartments aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express are not replicas, but painstakingly restored originals which will provide a luxurious base for your journey.

From the oak panelling to the soft white bathrobe to the floral Art Deco patterns of René Prou, the vintage cabins are full of details that will make your trip feel even more special.

By day, each compartment provides very comfortable seating and whilst you are enjoying your exquisite dinner in the restaurant car, a steward will convert the cabin into a welcoming bedroom, ready for your return.

Double and Single Cabins
Venice Simplon – Orient-Express

Single and double cabins offer banquette seating around a small table by the window, providing a comfortable spot from which to enjoy the passing scenery. Once the compartment has been converted to a bedroom, double cabins will offer upper and lower berths, both dressed in crisp, damask linen, whilst single cabins will provide only a lower berth.

Cabin Suite

Formed of two double compartments, the cabin suites offer even more space and luxury.

In the evening, you can choose to take an upper or a lower berth, or instead have two lower berths separated by an interconnecting door.

Grand Suite Cabins
Venice Simplon – Orient-Express

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express offers an unprecedented level of luxury and glamour with their Grand Suite Cabins. These opulent cabins are furnished with double or twin beds and en suite facilities. Guests travelling in Grand Suite Cabins will also benefit from private transfers to and from the train where they will be greeted by their own personal cabin steward.

A guaranteed table for two in the restaurant, free-flowing Champagne, and a complimentary art deco bathrobe are among numerous other small touches which add to this ultra-luxurious offering. Please contact us for further details.

The pleasure of dining

Restaurant Cars
Venice Simplon – Orient-Express

Every detail of your experience on the Orient-Express has been carefully considered to maximise your enjoyment, and nowhere is this more evident than in the three restaurant cars. Each is beautifully presented with sparkling silverware, glittering crystal, and yards of fresh white linen.

The menus are carefully prepared by Christian Bodiguel, the train’s Head Chef who has been working in the galley for more than 25 years, delivering exquisite dishes for discerning travellers from all over the world.

The Bar Car
Venice Simplon – Orient-Express

Following dinner, the Bar Car offers a world-class setting for a digestif. The train’s resident pianist will be playing the baby grand piano as you travel through European cities and countryside.

We recommend ordering a delicious Agatha Christie Bellini, named after the famous author who used the original Orient-Express to travel to Iraq and join her husband on archaeological digs.

Tailor Make Your Holiday

Unlike with most of the suggested itineraries on our website, a holiday with the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is restricted by date as the train does not run every day. However, there are many ways of planning a holiday around a set departure so that you are away for a special occasion or for the dates you have free to travel. (The only exception to this is the period between early November and early March when the train doesn’t run).

For example, you can board the train in Venice, Prague, Berlin or Innsbruck and take a luxurious journey back to London. It’s also possible to take the train in both directions on selected departures, for the ultimate in indulgence!

As ever, the holiday ideas we offer are just suggestions. We can create a tailor made package to fit around your plans and the Orient-Express departure of your choice, so just get in touch and we’ll do the rest.
