Suggested Itinerary
From Frankfurt, take a train service to Würzburg. You then travel on regional Bavarian services that deliver you right into the heart of the charming medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. You can start this holiday from any entry point in Germany or further afield. Just let us know where would be easiest for you to pick up this trip.
Upon arrival, check in at the Eisenhut Hotel (or similar), right in the historical centre, where you will have a 2-night stay.
Rothenburg is a charming Bavarian city, with a beautifully preserved medieval Old Town. You can visit the impressive Rathaus (Town Hall) and the remains of the medieval city wall, both of which offer spectacular views of the city and the surrounding Bavarian countryside. Make sure you also take time to stroll through the winding lanes and cobbled squares which are flanked by medieval and renaissance buildings.
Take the train through the rolling hills of Bavaria to the famous city of Nuremberg, where you will stay for 3 nights. Your accommodation, the Victoria Hotel (or similar), is conveniently located close to the train station and within easy walking distance of Nuremberg’s numerous points of interest.
Nuremberg is one of Germany’s most historic cities, famous for its beautiful Old Town and more recently, for the significant role it played in events before, during, and after the Second World War.
Nuremberg has so much to offer visitors, but you can also use your Bavarian regional railpass (Bayern Ticket) to explore the local area. You could travel to the walled city of Bamberg (30 minutes), or the cultural hub of Bayreuth (50 minutes), or beautiful Würzburg (55 minutes), all of which would make excellent day or half-day excursions.
The Bayern Ticket doesn’t require planning in advance. The railpass lets you travel on the day so you are free to travel around the region wherever and whenever you fancy!
Today, take the short train journey to the beautiful city of Regensburg where you will stay for 2 nights at the Achat Herzog Zum Dom (or similar).
Picturesque Regensburg is perched on the banks of the River Danube and the city’s handsome buildings, relaxed atmosphere and stunning location have enchanted visitors for centuries. If you are feeling adventurous, be sure to take a river cruise to Weltenburg Abbey and Cloisters and reward yourself by drinking in the stunning views – and maybe one of the monks’ famous beers too!
It’s just an hour and a half by train from Regensburg to Munich. On arrival, check in for 3 nights at the Courtyard by Marriott City Centre (or similar), a mere 5-minute stroll from the station.
As well as enjoying all that Munich has to offer, you have time for an exciting excursion during your stay in Bavaria’s capital. You will enjoy a guided tour to the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein (pictured) – the inspiration for Disney’s castle.
Leave Munich today for your onward journey. Why not travel from here over the Alps to Verona and Venice, or take the stunning journey across to Innsbruck and other destinations in Austria? Give us a call for more ideas.
