V enice, in the North East of Italy, is comprised of over one hundred small islands, famously linked by a series of canals. Gondolas ferry tourists and locals to their destinations which may include St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and the Piazza San Marco. The Venice Simplon-Orient Express and high-speed trains connecting Venice to Rome, Florence, Milan and the rest of Italy, terminate at the Santa Lucia station which opens out onto the Grand Canal.
